project life weeks 6 and 7...

Hi again, I have been playing with another super cute kit from Gossamer Blue to document the start of February. It's a bit different to my usual colour combos, but since Feb is the month of love I think I can get away with it ;)
It was another busy week, with both mine and my nieces birthdays, another fishing trip for the boys and lots of family time in between.
I have once again altered a Simple Stories Daily Grind 6x4" card to mark the start of the month. I thought it would be the perfect time to try out my new MFT hugs & kisses cover up die and I also added a bit of cork and a few metallic gold accents.

I noticed that a few of the pics I took that week had very dark backgrounds but I think they balance out pretty well with a few pops of colour.
I always look forward to the gorgeous vellum cards in my kits and seriously love these soft hearts!

moving onto week 7... filled with lots of everyday stuff and even though we don't really celebrate Valentine's day, I couldn't help myself and made a special treat for my boys :)
recording little moments like this is why I love Project Life!
another gorgeous vellum card, and the gold dipped heart is a new product from my {scrAp this!} range
I loved that this kit wasn't all hearts and kisses and was filled with lots of fun patterns and versatile pieces that made it easy to record a variety of themes.
last but not least a pic of me with my Mum ♥

It feels great to be making some progress in my album and I feel even more determined and inspired to get up to date after meeting the lovely Becky Higgins at my local Spotlight store this week!

 Thanks for stopping by xx

playing with Polly! scrap kits...

I'm super excited to have a guest post over on the Polly! blog today, playing with the yummy Passionfruit Souffle - February Scrapbooking kit.  from Polly! Scrap Kits and would love for you to come over and say Hi :)
I instantly fell in love with the beautiful combination of colours and patterns from Simple Stories, Bo Bunny & My Mind's Eye in this kit, and swooned when I saw the awesome mix of embellies!!!
I loved that even though the kit is filled with lots of pretty goodies it's very versatile and perfect for creating a range of different looks.

For my first layout I wanted to capture a moment of my youngest son busy playing with his toys on our stairs. I love taking in the little details while he plays and couldn’t resit taking a photo of his perfect little feet :)
I really like the subtle detail of wood grain papers and often use them as a base for my layouts and thought the grey colours would make a good contrast against the bright diagonal paper. I added a few strips of the thin washi tape along side the pink stripe to help draw attention to the smaller photo. The star paper was too good to pass up and so I cut up a few pieces on the same angle as the diagonal stripe and stitched these in place.
I absolutely love the cool metal arrows included in the kit and used a simple cross stitch to secure them to the page. I also used some of the bakers twine in a similar cross technique to dress up the other arrow.
and how cute are the tiny little arrows :) they make an adorable accent paired with the phrase and word stickers.

I went for a bit of a different look for this next layout featuring a snapshot of me with my boys.
I wanted a soft feel for my page and chose the confetti dots and coral stripe papers because they both have a nice creamy base and used a strip of the thin washi tape to anchor the two patterns together.
I couldn’t wait to use the gorgeous sparkly gold enamel dots and added a few drops of gold colour mist as well as some metallic gold stitching to tie it all in.
The cute typewriter chipboard was a perfect accent to add near my journaling, and I used a Bohemian Typewriter font on my computer to print up my journaling - I cut the strips slightly wider on the bottom so I would have room to stitch them in place.

Because I still had so many awesome products left over, I decided to create another layout.
I really wanted to make use of the bold polka dot and the whimsical heart papers and combined the two for this page about my son and his cousins striking a pose for the camera.
I started this page by spraying a white cardstock base with a bit of seafoam coloured mist and stitched a 10” frame in the centre. Because I had already used the reverse side of the polka dot paper for my first layout, I used the cut out portion as a design element and filled in the missing section with the heart paper.
I used the Simple Stories stickers to help tell the story and also to add little pops of accent colour to create a nice flow across the page.

Unfortunately this gorgeous kit has already sold out (they always sell out fast) so if you don't want to miss out on the next lot of awesome kits head over to the Polly! store and check out the subscription offers. Don't forget to "like'' the Polly! face book page to keep up to date with all the upcoming releases and exclusives.... I've heard that due to popular demand Ruth is in the process of putting together an awesome embellishment kit :)

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been busy playing with my 2014 Project Life album. You might be wondering what happened to my 2013 album? To be totally honest I wasn't very prepared when I first started playing with Project life and quickly found myself very behind with the whole process and as a result last year's album has gone into the 'to-do' basket for now while I try and keep up to date with this year's memories.

I am still LOVING the whole process and have learnt a lot along the way, and I'm thinking I will do a separate post on how I have gotten myself organised at a later date - in the meantime here is the start of my 2014 album.
For me the title page has been the most daunting because it was difficult to try and anticipate the feel for the rest of the album. I decided to try and capture what the first parts of the year involved so it would flow nicely with the first month and as you can see we spent a lot of time by the water.
my colour scheme began with this awesome 2014 vellum card from Gossamer Blue, and I paired it with a mix of cards from Simple Stories along with a few bits & pieces from my stash.

I have used the January Life Pages kit form Gossamer Blue to document the start of the year.
I've decided to use these Simple Stories calendar cards from the Daily Grind collection to mark the start of every month and have altered them with lots of goodies from my kit.
I'm loving the clean look of white brushes on photos and am very happy to have bought a few sets by Karla Dudley Design for Pixels & Co.

the rest of the week involved some fishing as well as a bit of an incident with my new knives...
moving onto week 2...
I have a bit of a weakness for wood veneers and love the cute pieces from the kit.

again using a Karla Dudley Design photo brush

I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot of use from these awesome Monday-Friday stamps from Kellie Stamps
I used the stamps from the kit with vellum to create a couple of easy accents, and am wishing I had a few more of these super cute star cards to use.

Thanks for stopping by :) I'd love to know what you think of my album so far?
I'll be back with some scrapping and more project life soon.

Wow, has it really been that long since my last post?

3 months ago I said I would be back with my Scrapbooking Memories Masters entries from 2013... to be honest it has been soooooo long since I scrapped these that I was wondering if there was any point in sharing them on my blog, but I got the layouts out and started taking pictures and decided that I still like what I created, so here it is ;)

I'm not really sure why I continue to torture myself with the whole Masters process because despite quite a few Honourable Mentions I am far from 'Master' status, but I have to admit that I enjoy the challenge of coming up with something to meet the criteria, then trying to finish it all before the deadline... I don't like the waiting but love getting a copy of the mag to see what everyone else has created :D

The layout that got me an honourable mention was for the unique background challenge where you had to use various techniques and mediums to create your own background.
I used a combination of mists, layered washi tape and texture paste to create the base for my layout. It was fun to try something different and I was really happy with the results.

This next layout was for the 5x7" photo challenge, and I went with a fun pic of little Cayden playing in the garden.
It's a bit hard to see in these photos but I created a large vellum pocket to hold a mix of sequins and confetti on the base of the page.

The double layout criteria was to document a journey.
here's a closer look at the left hand side
I began the story with a photo of the highway we travel on from one of our trips to the beach
I tucked a little map of our favourite summer destination behind some vellum as memorabilia from our journey.
moving onto the right hand side
I dressed up one of my beach snapshots to create the title.

The last challenge was to create a 2014 calendar - I definitely don't do many off the page items and it took me a long time to figure out how to tackle the challenge. I wanted something practical and simple in design so it wouldn't clash with my decor and decided to put some of my shadow box frames to use.
Two of the frames were actually white, so I spray painted them all with a glossy black, and used some dark grey cardstock to contrast with the bright colours. I was influenced by some of my Project Life cards for the calendar deign and so I used a 3x4" polaroid die to create the cards, then die-cut each of the months before using foam dots to place them on the base.
I also typed up and printed my own calendars and use a few simple embellishments to dress up each month.

I also used B&W polka dot washi tape to cover the front of each frame and added a few quotes to fill in the extra polaroids.

Thanks for stopping by and looking back at my entries with me. I have been busy playing with my project life album and am also in the process of working with a super gorgeous kit as a guest designer from a fabulous Aussie kit store.. but you'll have to come back to find out which one ;)
